Summary:PURPOSE:To form a thin-walled cylinder excellent in accuracy and free from the difference in strength in each direction thereof by pressing tools against a cylindrical blank material while rotating the material in one body with a mandrel and giving a tensile force to the material in its axial direction as well as a twisting force in its circumferential direction. CONSTITUTION:A mandrel 4 is attached to a main spindle 3 of a headstock 2 provided to a base 1 to rotate the mandrel 4 in one body with a cylindrical blank material 8, and a roll supporting bed 5 is disposed in correspondence with the pressing position of mandrel 4 to press plural rolls 6, arranged at equal intervals in the circumferential direction, against the outer circumference of material 8. On the other hand, a tensile force is given to the material 8 in the axial direction of mandrel 4 by holding the end of material 8 with the aid of a chuck 9 attached to a tailstock provided to the other end of bed 1. At the same time, a twisting force is given to the material 8 by rotating the chuck 9 with the aid of an air motor 10 in the same direction as that of the mandrel 4 and at the same speed higher than that of the mandrel 4. In this way, the strength of material 8 in its circumferential direction is made approximately equal to that of material 8 in its 45 deg. direction.
