Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a secondary battery having a good discharge property and high energy density with small inner resistance by using an aggregate of specific active carbon fiber in the positive pole. CONSTITUTION:An aggregate of active carbon fiber having the pore diameter 30-300Angstrom and the pore capacity not less than 0.30cc/(g) is used as the positive pole carbon material of a nonaqueous battery consisting of the light metal negative pole, a separator, the carbon material positive pole and an organic electrolyte. Said carbon material shall preferably have electric specific resistance not exceeding 5X10<-2>OMEGA.cm. Said active carbon fiber is manufactured by a method, in which, for instance, a carbon fiber having a surface area of 30- 1,200m /(g) besides a pore diameter 30-300Angstrom and the porous capacity not exceeding 0.1cc/(g) is made to carry more than one kind selected from among the periodic law IIA family and the transition metals followed, by excitation treatment.
