PURPOSE:A photopolymerization initiator having high sensitivity and good storage stability and a composition useful in photocurable paints, photoresists, etc., prepared by combining a specified benzoylperoxy compound with a specified benzoin compound. CONSTITUTION:The titled composition is obtained by combining a benzoylperoxy compound of the partial structure of formula I (wherein Ar1 is an unsubstituted phenyl or a phenyl substituted with a 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or the like) with a benzoyl compound of formula II (wherein Ar2 and Ar3 represent independently of each other unsubstituted phenyl groups and phenyl groups substituted with a 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, halogen or the like; R1 is H, OH, a 1-4C alkyl, alkoxy, phenyl or the like; and R2 is H, a 1-4C alkyl, hydroxyalkyl or phenyl). If required, a suitable diluent solvent (e.g., water or methanol) is added to the above composition.
