Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a battery having high voltage, high capacity, and good storage life by using a negative electrode having a light metal as an active material, a positive electrode containing complex oxide of manganese and chromium as an active material, and a nonaqueous electrolyte. CONSTITUTION:A complex oxide indicated by a formula of MnXCrOY (X and Y are 0.4<=X<=2.7, and 3.6<=Y<=8.4) is formed by mixing chromium oxide to manganese nitrate or manganese dioxide. A conductive material and a binder are added to the complex oxide and they are pressed in a pellet to form a positive electrode 5. It is combined with a negative electrode using a light metal such as lithium as an active material, a separator 3, and a nonaqueous electrolyte to form a button type battery. Relatively flat discharge performance around 3V and large discharge capacity are obtained. Poisinous chromium trioxide is eliminated and handling in manufacturing process is made safe.
