Summary:PURPOSE:To provide a solvent type magnetic coating consisting mainly of magnetic powder and a binder prepared from a specified thermoplastic resin, which is excellent in dispersion of magnetic powder and coatability and produces magnetic recording media having good magnetic properties and durability. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic coating is of solvent type consisting mainly of magnetic power and a binder. The binder is a thermoplastic resin obtained by polymerizing in an organic solvent 100pts.wt. vinyl chloride and/or vinylidene chloride monomer or its blend with a copolymerizable monomer in the presence of 3-100pts.wt. thermoplastic polyurethane elastomer soluble in an organic solvent and having a softening point of 20 deg.C or higher. The coating exhibits good dispersion of magnetic powder and coatability and produces magnetic recording media having excellent magnetic properties and durability.
