Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the IC socket which can be used on an automatic selector by a method wherein a semiconductor device is pinched in the main body of the socket by automatically opening and closing the upper cover of the socket, and the cover is locked on the main body. CONSTITUTION:A cover 15 is opened, a package is automatically inserted in the hole 12 of the socket main body 11, and have an external lead pin to come in contact with a terminal 13. A shaft 14 is pivotally moved by the operation of a cylinder 21 through a rack 20 and a pinion 18, and the cover 15 is moved in closing direction together with an arm 19. As a result, the package is pinched between the cover 15 and the main body, it is placed in the hole 15, and the package is securely contacted by pressing the external lead pin on a measuring terminal 13 using a protrusion 17. When the cover is closed, the cover and the main body are fixed by the operation of a hook type locking mechanism, and a measurement of the device is conducted under the state wherein a secure contact is maintained. According to this constitution, the socket cover can be automatically opened or closed, the socket can be used on an automatic selector and the like, work efficiency can be improved by a constant automation, and an accurate measurement can also be performed.
