Summary:PURPOSE:To produce raw mateial iron for production of cast iron of high toughness by adding specific amts. of Ce, La and their compds. to molten iron contg. specific amts. of C, Si, S, melting these and casting the melt into molds for cast iron. CONSTITUTION:1 or >=2 kinds among Ce, La or their compds. are added at 0.01-0.09 as Ce, La or Ce + La to molten iron contg., by wt%, >2.5 C, <3.5 Si and <0.1 S, and these are melted. The Ce and La are added in order to obtain spheroidal graphite cast iron through remelting by a high speed melting method. These cast ingots are remelted by using a high frequency induction furnace and the melt is cast into ordinary molds for cast iron. The resultant cast iron of high toughness has about >=25kg/mm. tensile strength and the graphite in the cast iron is spheroidal.
