Summary:PURPOSE:To get rid of the air within a sleeve in a simple way when a ferrule is inserted and to facilitate an easy insertion of the ferrule, by forming a square section for a pierced hole of the sleeve or forming the ferrule into a prismatic shape. CONSTITUTION:For the cross section vertical to the axis of an optical connector, ferrule 11 has an optical fiber 10 at its center and a sleeve 12 has a hexagonal pierced hole 12a. The sleeve 12 is inserted while it is positioned for its center and with a contact secured only on a line parallel to the center axial line between the cylindrical outer side of the ferrule 11 and each side of the inner wall of the sleeve 12. As a result, the air inside the sleeve 12 is discharged easily through a gap A which is formed between the inner wall of the sleeve and the outer wall of the ferrule.
