PURPOSE:To provide the titled composition composed of a mixture of specific polyprenyl compounds containing specific amounts of more than three kinds of specific homologues, useful as an intermediate of mammal dolichol having physiological activity, and extracted from Ginkgo biloba or Cedrus deodara. CONSTITUTION:The objective polyprenyl composition extracted from Ginkgo biloba or Cedrus deodara is composed of a mixture of plural kinds of the compounds of formulaI(A1 is OH or OCOCH3; the group of formula II is trans- isoprene unit; the group of formula III is cis-isoprene unit; n is integer of 11-19), wherein said mixture contains at least three kinds of the compounds having an n-value of 14, 15 and 16 as essential components in substantial amouts. The sum of the above three kinds of compounds is >=70wt% of the mixture. The composition resembles closely to the mammal dolichol in the homologue distribution, and can be converted to the above active substance, easily, only by bonding a saturated isoprene unit to the alpha-terminal.
