Summary:PURPOSE:To perform a highly sensitive and reliable cutoff by placing a lever at a status to press a valve body in an opened condition and by allowing the lever to generate a moment equal to or greater than a predetermined amount when an earthquake with an intensity equal to or greater than a predetermined value occurs. CONSTITUTION:When an earthquake with an intensity equal to or greater than a predetermined value occurs, a valve chest 1 is swayed in one body with a building, and an external force swaying the valve chest 1 is transmitted to a lever 17 and tends to sway a heavy weight 20, which is, however, fitted to the lever with a play and tends to remain stationary by inertia even if the earthquake occurs. Therefore, a force horizontally tumbling the lever 17 is generated and a roller 24 rolls, then when it goes off a cam face 13a and reaches an inclined cam face 13b, a wedge action is created to bumble the lever horizontally. Thereby, a valve body 5 rises and the conical surface section 5a of the valve body 5 gets into contact with a valve seat 8 to keep the valve in a closed condition.
