Summary:PURPOSE:To optically automatically measure a required picture area by examining a mean transmission factor per column to be obtained by measuring each column line widthwise of the film for each film allocated position on the basis of the data concerning the film printing position. CONSTITUTION:The film 12 under measurement is placed on the register 13 with its register marks 94, 95 aligned with the center lines 91, 90 on the center of the stge 13. Then, the date concerning the film printing position such as number N of ink amount adjusting keys and their intervals P in the printing machine in use, the width 2W of the film under measurement, the vertical length LF of the film are input through the key board so that the films placed in position are allocated to the divided columns C1 to Cn. Strip-shaped measuring spots 96 with the length l equal to the width of the column measure the picture area per column by repeating a stroke from left end to right end.
