Summary: | PURPOSE:To obtain a highly reliable detector not varying an ion electric current by outer turbulence, by increasing the thermal capacity of a cathode or filament part of a sodium ionization detector detecting an ion electric current of sodium. CONSTITUTION:A filament 13 is put in a cylindrical cathode 19 and an electric insulator 20 is filled in its gap. The cathode 19 is constructed to have such structure as having a large heat capacity, that is, made of material having high spe- cific heat or high density or having a dimension to make a volume large as far as possible. Sodium particles are ionized on the surface of the cathode 19 by heating the filament 13 and applying high voltage between a collector 14 and the cathode 19 and then, supplying sampling gas containing the sodium particles. Further, ionized particles are accelerated by the high voltage between the cathode 19 and the collector 14 and are moved to the collector side as an ion electric current. The magnitude of this current is detected by a current circuit and the density of the sodium particle is known. |
