Summary:PURPOSE:To enable the stable and long-term operation of a finishing device by detecting vibrations of a touch roller caused by strike of a resilient needle- shaped projection against the touch roller in contact with the surface of the cylindrical rubber article. CONSTITUTION:A head assembly 2 is moved to a cylindrical rubber article 4 by means of a cylinder 11 and the touch roller 25 is pressed against the article 4 by means of a cylinder 21. With this setting, the article 4 is rotated and the roller 25 is moved from the center of the article 4 to its circumferential area at a certain speed. When a resilient needle-shaped projection exists on the surface of the article 4, the projection strikes against the roller 25 to vibrate it. This vibration is detected by a vibration detector 5. After a certain period of time, the roller 25 is withdrawn by means of the cyliner 21 and the head assembly 2 is tilted counterclockwise around an axis 32 to remove the roller 25 from the article 4. A cutter 26 is then pressed against the article 4 so that the projection is cut out.
