PURPOSE:To reduce the volume of a control rod storing pool by storing control rods in the control rod storing pool with the guide rollers provided for the control rods covered. CONSTITUTION:A radioactive ray shielding cap 4 is immersed into the cooling water of a control rod storing pool by holding a handle 9. The upper end of the control rod 1 disposed in the cooling water is inserted into the space provided inside the radioactive ray shielding cap 4. As the radioactive ray shielding cap 4 descends further, the upper end of the control rod 1 is inserted in a guiding groove 8 of a radioactive ray shielding case 7, thus reducing the distance between the surface of the cooling water and the upper end of the control rod by storing the control rods 1 in the control rod storing pool with the radioactive ray shielding cap 4 provided at the upper end of the control rods 1.
