Summary:PURPOSE:To maintain the stable rate of transfer and to control the rate of transfer over a wide range, by measuring the rate of transfer at all times, controlling a roll gap automatically when said rate increases or decreases and controlling the peripheral speed of an applicator roll as well. CONSTITUTION:The scraping rate of a blade is determined by providing an oscillator 9 for electromagnetic flow and measuring the flow rate of scraping. The coating weight is determined by receiving the signal of the coating weight per square meter from a beta-ray thickness gage 10, inputting operating conditions, calculating volumetric weight then adding the same to the rate of scraping, thereby determining the rate of transfer. The rate of transfer is kept measured at all times in such a way, and when any change arises in the indicated set value of the flow rate during coating operation, the signal of a setter 11 is fed to a roll stopper 7, and the gap is adjusted automatically with a servocontrol motor or the like. The control of the speed to increase the control width for the rate of transfer is possible as well by feeding the signal of the setter 11 to a driving motor 8 for an applicator roll 3.
