Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the titled compound useful as an agricultural and horticultural germicide, etc. in high yield and purity, by heating a specific bistriazolylvinyl ketone type compound with an acid, and eliminating one of the triazolyl groups selectively to recover 1,2,4-triazole with ease. CONSTITUTION:A bistriazolylvinyl ketone compound of formula I (X is H or Cl) is reacted with an acid without a solvent or in the solvent at 50-100 deg.C, preferably 90-100 deg.C, to give the aimed compound of formula II in high purity. The resultant eliminated 1,2,4-triazole is easily recovered as a salt with the used acid from the aqueous layer. Hydrochloric, sulfuric, nitric, phosphoric, sulfonic acid, etc. may be preferably used as the acid, and the amount thereof to be used is preferably 5-10 times based on the raw material of formula I . The acid may be used in an acidic aqueous solution in various concentrations. USE:An intermediate for preparing triazolylvinyl alcohol useful as an agricultural and horticultural germicide.
