Summary:PURPOSE:To realize size reduction and to improve the extraction characteristics of the horizon in a picture supplied from a TV camera by arranging one-directional real-space filters vertically, and using a two-dimensional real-space filter to extract the horizon in real time by processing a real space area. CONSTITUTION:The picture which is image picked up by the TV camera 1 and contains the horizon is stored in a picture memory 2. Then a filter composing circuit 11 arranges one dimensional weighted array of filters vertically, and further arranging the same arrays horizontally several times as many as horizontal picture elements to constitute a two-dimensional filter. A filter processing circuit 4 finds the convolution integral of the picture stored in said picture memory 2 and two-dimensional filter and displays the result on a CRT 6 through the picture memory 2 to obtain the horizon. In this invention, the number of horizontal picture elements in the picture memory 2 corresponding to one wave front is found previously from weather conditions and the distance between the TV camera and wave front, and the filter composing circuit 11 arranges filters horizontally several times as many as the picture elements of the wave front to obtain the two-dimensional filter. Thus, processing in a real space area is employed, so the processing is performed in real time and the capacity required for extraction processing is reduced greatly.
