Summary: | PURPOSE:The reaction between isopropylidene-L-ascorbic acid and tetra-acetylhaloglucopyranose is carried out in an organic solvent in the presence of a strong organic base at room temperature to permit efficient production of the titled compound used in formulation for drugs and cosmetics. CONSTITUTION:In the presence of a strong organic base, preferably 4-dimethylaminopyridine, 1mol or 5,6-O-isopropylidene-L-ascorbic acid of formula I is made to react with 1-2mol of 2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetyl-1-haloglucopyranose of formula IIin an organic solvent such as dimethyl sulfoxide to give the objective 5,6-O- isopropylidene-3-O-(2,3,4,6-tetra-O-acetylglucopyranosyl)-L-ascorbic acid. The amount of the organic base is preferably 0.5-2mol. |
