Summary:PURPOSE:To stable the shift operation along with the improvement of the display quality by providing an electric field shielding electrode on an electrode covering dielectric layer for any one among buses and lead conductors constituting a discharge region to prevent unnecessary dischrge. CONSTITUTION:An electric field shielding electrode 30 (30A, 30B, 30C) is provided so as to sufficiently include a unnecessary discharge region, e.g., on the surface of a dielectric layer 21 on X side lead conductors x11j, x21j. This electric field shielding electrode 30 is intended to prevent dischargeable electric field from being applied to the unnecessary discharge region, to which electic field suppressing voltage is selectively supplied according to self shift driving systems to be used. Namely, the electric field shielding electrode 30 is electrostatically coupled with the X side lead conductors x11j, x21j via the dielectric layer 21, and therefore voltage having a specific crest value is induced on the electrodes 30A-30C, respectively. Hereby, a stable shift operation is enabled along with the improvement of the display quality.
