Summary: | PURPOSE:To prepare an alcohol, economically, by the Grignard reaction of an organic halide with a carbonyl compound in the presence of metallic magnesium, using two or more tank reactors connected in series with each other, charging the raw materials in the reactors under specific conditions, and hydrolyzing the reaction product. CONSTITUTION:The compound of formulaI(R1 is hydrocarbon residue having an unsaturated bond at the beta-position; X is halogen) is made to react with the compound of formula II (R2 and R3 are 1-4C alkyl, alkenyl, phenyl, etc.) by the Grignard reaction using metallic Mg. The above reaction is carried out using two or more tank reactors connected with each other in series. The first reactor is supplied continuously with the required amount of Mg, a part of the required amount of the compound of formulaI, a cyclic or acyclic ether, etc., and if neccessary a reaction accelerator, and the reaction mixture is transferred to the next reactor. The following reactors are supplied continuously with the remaining part of the compound of formulaI, the required amount of the compound of formula II, and if necessary, the above ethers to obtain the compound of formula III continuously, which is hydrolyzed to obtain the compound of formula IV. |
