Summary:PURPOSE:To prevent the generation of the acicular foam in the surface layer of an ingot, by stirring electromagnetically the molten steel which is of the specific compsn. contg. C, Si, Mn, Al, N, H, etc., is weakly deoxidized and contains hydrogen at a high rate, in a water-cooled casting mold thereby fluidizing the same forcibly. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting of molten steel for a thin plate, which is of the compsn. contg. <=0.05wt% C, <=0.02% Si, 0.1-0.5% Mn, 0.002-0.008% sol.Al, <=60ppm N and >=5ppm H, and is weakly deoxidized and contains hydrogen at a high rate, the molten steel is electromagnetically stirred along the front surface of the solidified shell in a crater until the solidified shell grown in a water-cooled casting mold attains to >=8mm. to fluidize the molten steel forcibly at the velocity at which the occluded gas is carried over and entrained in the molten steel, whereby foaming is suppressed effectively, the formation of the acicular or tubular foam in the surface layer of the ingot is prevented and the production of the rolled product having good surface conditions is made possible.
