Summary: | PURPOSE:To draw an ingot particularly in the starting stage of casting in the same state as the state in the steady stage by rotating twin mold rolls before the height of the surface of the molten metal stored on a starter plug inserted between said rolls attains the prescribed height in the continuous casting stage. CONSTITUTION:Molten metal 5 is charged 4 between twin mold rolls 1. The drawing is started by rotating the rolls 1 in an arrow A direction before the height of the surface of the molten metal 5 stored on a starter plug 9 attains the prescribed height H2 in the continuous casting stage, that is, when the height of the molten metal surface attains H1. The height H1 in this stage is equal to the perpendicular length between the horizontal line connecting the longest top end edge of the shell 8 formed of the rolls 1 around both inner side surfaces of gates 7 and the horizontal line connecting the axial centers 0 of both rolls. The conditions of the equation are satisfied to form the shell 8 in the same state as the state during casting. As a result, the rolls 1 in the starting stage of casting are kept free from powerful reaction; therefore, there is no need for using the powerful rolls 1 and support device thereof, and the ingot having high economy is obtained. |
