Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain the high transmissivity for laser beam by converging the laser beams into the concave part for oil sump which is formed on the inner surface of the window through which the laser beam is projected into the inside of a cylinder and ignition is executed, and combusting the dirt on the inner surface of the window, together with the oil. CONSTITUTION:A part of the inner wall 2 of a cylinder 1 in an internal combustion engine is made of the light transmitting material such as quartz glass and used as a laser beam incidence window 3, and a minute concave part 4 for oil sump is formed on the inner surface of the window 3. A laser beam source 5 is arranged outside the cylinder 1, and a condenser 6 is arranged between the laser beam source 5 and the window 3. And the laser beam transmitted from the light source 5 is projected towards the window 3, and converged into the concave part 4 through the lens 6. Therefore, the laser beams which pass the inner surface of the window 3 are sufficiently converged, and the dirt in the concave part 4 is combusted when oil is combusted, so the concave part 4 is always kept in clean state. Therefore, the high transmissivity for laser beam can be maintained without cleaning the window 3.
