Summary:PURPOSE:To transfer selectively Fe ions from an alkylphosphoric acid type extracting reagent contg. Fe and Zn ions to an aqueous soln. contg. NH4HF2, NH4F or HF in simple stages by diluting the reagent with an org. solvent and by bringing the diluted reagent into contact with the aqueous soln. CONSTITUTION:Fe and Zn ions contained in a surface treating liq. or the like are extracted with an org. solvent prepared by diluting >=1 kind of extracting reagent selected from alkylphosphoric acids, alkylarylphosphoric acids, alkylthiophosphoric acids and alkylarylthiophosphoric acids with petroleum hydrocarbon. The org. solvent A contg. Fe and Zn ions is introduced into a separation stage B and brought into contact with an aqueous soln. C contg. one or more among NH4HF2, NH4F and HF to shift the Fe ions from the org. phase to the aqueous phase. The Zn ions present in the org. phase are not transfered to the aqueous phase at all, and they are separated from the Fe ions.
