PURPOSE:To detect leakage surely by mounting plural pieces of temp. measuring elements near the joint part of flanges spacially in the circumferential direction thereof and detecting the leakage from the outputs thereof. CONSTITUTION:Thermocouples 8 are fixed to the parts near the rim tightening surfaces of the flanges 1 of a main steam pipe by spot welding or the like, and insulators 11 for protection are covered on the lead wires 9, 10 thereof to insulate the wires electrically. The thermocouples are installed spacially over the entire circumference of the flanges. Fabriclike asbestos 12 are adhered on the outside circumference of the flange rims. Indicators for measuring the temps. detected with the thermocouples are intalled in a central control room or the like where safety is assured in monitoring. The steam temp. in the steam passages is 538 deg.C or 566 deg.C and the outside temp. of the flange rims in the steady operation stage is about 510 deg.C or 540 deg.C. When the steam escapes through gaskets 3 and metal contact surfaces 5 and approaches to the outside circumference of the flanges, the outside surface temp. in said part rises locally by DELTAT'C as compared to the normal state.
