Summary:PURPOSE:To achieve approximately uniform distribution of light emission strength by arranging rod electrodes along the axis of a bulb in parallel and reverse direction thereby making the voltage across local electrodes approximately uniform over the entire length of the electrode. CONSTITUTION:Base ends 4a, 4b are connected to the tip of a pair of leads 3, 3 led through the seal sections 2, 2 of a linear glass bulb 1 into the bulb 1, while a pair of rod electrodes 4, 4 are arranged along the axis of the bulb 1. Upon application of the firing voltage on both lead wires 3, 3, the glow discharge will occur across the facing electrodes 4, 4. Here the potential on the surface of the electrode 4 is highest at the base end 4a while lowers exponentially toward the leading end 4b, but since both electrodes 4, 4 are arranged in parallel and reverse direction, the local voltage across both electrodes 4, 4 is slightly higher at both ends while approximately uniform in the midway.
