Summary:PURPOSE:To enhance the water sealing capability of a inlet valve, by arranging a resilient member having a pluraity of metal bodies embeded therein, in a gap between a valve bore and a valve element and by pressing the metal bodies against the valve element with the use of tapered bolts so that a uniform interference is provided over the whole periphery of the resilient member. CONSTITUTION:An inlet valve comprises a valve bore 1 and a valve element 6 which define a gap into which a reslient member 7 is disposed for water sealing. The resilient member 7 is secured by means of retainer plates 9, bolts 10 and washers 8. In this arrangement, a plurality of arcuated metal bodies 14 are embeded in the resilient member 7, each being formed therein with tapered holes into which pressing bolts 15 are inserted. With this arrangement, a uniform interference is provided over the whole periphery of the resilient member 7 so that the water sealing capability of the valve may be enhanced and as well the working thereof may be efficiently carried out.
