Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a liquid crystal display with a heater of simple constitution, by forming a common electrode in such a way as to provide an effect of applying an electric field to a liquid crystal and warming the liquid crystal. CONSTITUTION:A lead terminal 7a connected to a common electrode 3 is provided in addition to a lead part 6a of a common electrode 4 on a common electrode substrate 3. The lead terminal 7a is used for a heater and the common electrode 3 is conducted with DC current from the part 6a and said lead terminal 7a so as to generate heat by taking advantage of the instrinsic electrical conductivity of the electrode 3. The electrode 3 heated in such a way warms the liquid crystal thereby increasing the response speed thereof. The liquid crystal display provided with the heater of the simple constitution is thus obtained.
