Summary:PURPOSE:To improve the measuring accuracy of the titled device without changing the attachment of a detecting lever at the calibration of side pressure by converting a vertical load into a horizontal load and applying the converted load to a horizontal measurement plate. CONSTITUTION:A balance 20 having a vertical arm 21b and a horizontal arm 21a which are intersected at right angles is previously balanced and a contact element 26 attached to the vertical arm 21b is contacted to the horizontal measurement plate 11 of a stylus pressure measuring device. After applying a known vertical load to the horizontal arm 21, the balance 20 is moved in the direction of the plate 11 until balanced again and the vertical load is converted into a horizontal load to apply the converted load to the plate 11. The displacement of the plate 11 is measured by a non-contact displacement meter 14 to obtain the I/O characteristics for pressure force and an output from the displacement meter 14. Consequently the stylus pressure measuring device can be precisely calibrated.
