Summary: | PURPOSE:To find continuously an air-fuel ratio by performing a mass spectral analysis of sample gas and to improve its response capacity, by varying voltage applied to two pairs of columnar electrodes of a quadruplex pole mass spectrometer connected to a discharge opening of waste gas. CONSTITUTION:A gas entrance 11 is connected to a waste gas discharge part of an engine and a vacuum pump 18 is connected to a differential pressure type sampler 10 consisting of orifices 14, 15 and a tubular body 15. The inner part of a sampling part 20 of a quadruplex pole mass spectrometer 19 is kept at a high vacuum by operating a vacuum pump 22. Sample gas is ionized by an electronic beam 27 emanated by heating a filament 26 and the mass of the sample gas is analyzed by varying voltage applied to two pairs of columnar electrodes corresponding to qudruplex poles 29 passing through this ion and then, the variation of an air fuel ratio in the lapse of time is obtained through a data processing part 34. Further, this apparatus has excellent response characteristics because the sampler 10 and the spectrometer 19 do not contain a primary factor causing time delay. |
