PURPOSE:To elevate workability for throwing into a molten metal and also physical and chemical effects, by using a slag-making agent for metal refining, consisting essentially of aluminum oxide and metallic aluminum, by forming it in the shape of a lump by use of a caking agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:Aluminum oxide powder and metallic aluminum are essentially mixed, and they are formed in the shape of a lump having a fruit seed shape whose weight and volume are about 5.5g and 3cc, respectively, by use of a suitable binder or adhesive agent, and are used as a slag-making agent. Said lumpy slag-making agent is suitable for a throwing-in work by a machine equipment such as a chute, etc., also is not blown off by the high-temperature gas in the vessel, is not cracked, also it is not oxidized by metallic aluminum, reaches a zone of moten substance without changing its state, so its reduction effect, etc. can be displayed sufficiently. In this regard, said slag-making agent is capable of suitably changing its shape, volume, weight, etc. in accordance with the quantity of a molten metal and the working conditions.
