Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a cylindrical battery, which has an excellent liquid leakage resistance and in which complete electric contact between its inner and outer cans is realized, by holding an insulating plate between the lower end of a plate group and a plural number of curved pieces, which are provided at the lower end of the inner can in which the plate group is installed. CONSTITUTION:A positive electrode 1 is made by pressing an active material mixture principally consisting of manganese dioxide upon a current collecting body 2 made of a titanium net, and a negative electrode 3 is made by pressing lithium metal upon a current collecting body 4 made of a stainless steel net. Next, after the negative electrode 3 and the positive electrode 1 which is wrapped in a separator 5 are stacked together, the stacked body is rolled around a stainless-steel current-collecting body 6, to which the end of the body 4 is welded, into spiral form, thus a plate group 7 is formed. Then, after the plate group 7 is inserted into an inner stainless-steel can 8, which has a brimmed part 8a and curved pieces 8b, a sealing plate 10 to which a sealing polypropylene gasket 9 is attached is welded to the upper end of the bar 6 so as to constitute a unified assembled body. Next, electrolyte is poured into the assembled body after it is reversed, and the pieces 8b are curled so as to fix the assembled body. After that, an outer can 12 is put over the assembled body, and fastened around the periphery of the gasket 9 so as to seal the battery.
