Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain a hard type contact lens with superior hydrophilic property, oxygen permeability and fitness by using partially esterified pullulan as a lens material. CONSTITUTION:Pullulan with about 100,000 average mol.wt. represented by formula (C6H10O5)n.H2O is dissolved in DMF and reacted with acetic anhyride at about 80 deg.C to form partially esterified pullulan with >=1.5, preferably 2-3 degree of ester substitution. This partially esterified pullulan is poured in a molding container and press-molded with heating to obtain a contact lens.
