Summary:PURPOSE:To save cooling time by performing redressing of a roll immediately after it is removed from the rolling mill while applying coolant all over the surface of the roll. CONSTITUTION:A fast head stock 2 and a loose head stock 3 are installed on the bed 1a, and the fast head stock 2 is provided with a main shaft to which a face plate 4 is attached. A roll 5 is set between the face plate 4 and the loose head stock 3 with its journals supported by rests 6 immediately after it is dismounted from the rolling mill without waiting for cooling. Redressing is performed by moving a grindstone to axial direction while cooling the roll surface by uniform application along its total length of coolant ejected from nozzles 13 of a coolant supply pipe 11 installed beneath the roll 5. Steam generated from the roll surface is collected by a hood 14 and discharged through a duct 15 by means of an exhaust fan 17.
