Summary:PURPOSE:To eliminate the need for a control signal recording and playback head by simultaneously applying a high frequency current and a control current to a full width erasing head ahead of a rotary magnetic head and reading out the control signal with this head at playback. CONSTITUTION:An erasing high frequency current and a control current are applied to a full width erasing head Hec ahead of a rotary head Hv, and the information on a tape T already recorded is erased and control signals C- are recorded on the tape T. At playback, the signal C is read out with the head Hec and the running of the tape T is controlled. Thus, the use of a control signal recording and playback head is unnecessary and the provision of a control signal track is not necessary on the tape, allowing to simplify the constitution, and the control signal can be recorded without missing and surely reproduced.
