Summary:PURPOSE:To cause double injection of fuel during one stroke of a fuel injection pump in a reliable manner, by opening an inlet port and an outlet port for main fuel and auxiliary fuel respectively in two pump chambers formed in a barrel of the fuel injection pump. CONSTITUTION:A fuel injection pump of this invention comprises a first and a second pump sections 3, 4 for ejecting auxiliary fuel and main fuel toward respective injection valves which are formed in a barrel 1 having therein a plunger 2 fitted in a freely slidable mannr. The first pump section 3 has a first pressure chamber 7 that is defined by inserting a small-diameter projection 5 in a small-diameter part 6 of the barrel 1, and an outlet port 8, inlet port 9 and vent hole 10 are formed in the first pressure chamber 7. similarly, the second pump section 4 has a second pressure chamber 13, in which are formed an outlet port 14, inlet port 15 and vent hole 17. The vent hole 17 is communicated to a spiral and vent groove 16 formed in the peripheral surface of a larg-diameter part 11 of the plunger 2, along with axial sliding movement of the large-diameter part 11 in the barrel 1.
