Summary:PURPOSE:To efficiently shape a glass gob fed into a glass molding tool prior to molding by attaching a pressing member such as a hammer which is swingable and can enter and leave the tool to a gob shaper. CONSTITUTION:A gob shaper composed chiefly of a pressing arm 5, a hammer 4 and an air cylinder 8 is set in the vicinity of a molding tool 1 or molding a glass gob 2 extruded by a gob feeder from a melting furnace and cut with cutting shears. As soon as the gob 2 is put in the tool 1, compressed air is introduced into the cylinder 8 to raise a piston rod 9, the arm 5 is swung around a shaft 6 as a center, and by dropping the iron hammer 4, a protrusion remaining on the upper surface of the gob 2 is forced into the gob 2 and fused. Thus, the protrusion is allowed to disappear. The compressed air is then exhausted to return the hammer 4 to the original position.
