Summary:PURPOSE:To obtain graphitic moldings with high hear conductivity without using a graphitization furnace, etc. by kneading flake graphite as principal starting material with solid powdered pitch and a liq. binder compatible with the pitch, molding the kneaded material, and carrying out calcination in a reducing atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:To 100pts.wt. flake graphite are added 10-30pts.wt. solid powdered pitch and 15-25pts.wt. liq. tar-modified phenol resin compatible with the pitch. They are kneaded and molded at below a temp. at which the pitch is not softened thoroughly, and calcination is carried out in a reducing atmosphere to obtain graphitic moldings. By this method dense graphitic moldings with high strength, high degree of graphitization and high heat conductivity can be obtd. without using a special furnace such as a graphitization furnace, and the moldings are widely applicable to a carbonaceous refractory and other various kinds of use.
