Summary: | NEW MATERIAL:A compound of formula I (R1, R2 are H, lower alkyl, halogen, di-lower alkylamino; R3, R4 are lower alkyl). EXAMPLE:3-Anilino-8-diethylamino-benzo[a]fluoran. USE:Pigment precursor for heat-sensitive recording material: it gives purpleoblack to dark purple pigment with high water and light fastness by coming into contact with an electron acceptor such as acid clay or bisphenol-A. PREPARATION:For example, the reaction between an anilinonaphthalene of formula II (R is H, lower alkyl) and a benzophenone derivative of formula III is conducted in the presence of a condensing agent such as conc. sulfuric acid at 0-120 deg.C for several hours. The reaction mixture is poured into water, precipitate is filtered and the cake is refluxed in a volatile organic inert solvent such as toluene and a sodium hydroxide aqueous solution. The organic layer is separated, concentrated and purified. |
