Summary: | PURPOSE:To prepare a highly stable emulsion giving a water-resistant film and useful as a paint, etc., by polymeizing a vinyl monomer in the presence of a emulsifying agent containing polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether sulfuric acid ester poly- valent metal salt as an essential component. CONSTITUTION:A polymerizable vinyl monomer (e.g. methyl acrylate) is emulsified in an aqueous dispersion medium obtained by dissolving an emulsifying agent containing a polyoxyalkylene alkylphenyl ether sulfuric acid ester poly-valent metal salt (e.g. magnesium salt of poloxy-ethylene octylphenyl ether sulfate) as an essential component in water. A water-soluble radical polymerization initiator such as potassium persulfate is added to the emulsion, and the vinyl monomer is subjected to the emulsion polymerization under heating. After the reaction, the pH of the reaction system is pref. adjusted with aqueous ammonia, etc. |
