Summary:PURPOSE:A material containing epitheliocyte growth factor is homogenized, separated into the solid and the supernatant and the growth factor in the supernatant is adsorbed on a specific hydrophilic gel, then desorbed, thus purifying high- purity epitheliocyte growth factor through a one-stage process in high yield. CONSTITUTION:A material containing epitheliocyte growth factor such as saliva glands of adult male mice, human or equine urine is homogenized, adjusted in pH to 4.3-4.7 and separated into the solid fraction and the supernatant by centrifugation or filtration. Then, the supernatant is brought into contact with a hydrophilic crosslinked acrylate or methacrylate gel containing oxygen atoms bonding to aliphatic carbon atoms to effect the adsorption of the growth factor. The growth factor is eluted to give the purified growth factor. The growth factor is a peptide hormone and known to inhibit the secretion of gastric acid as well as promote the propagation of epitheliocytes or epithelial tissues.
