Summary:PURPOSE:To decide the deterioration state of an ion selecting electrode easily by instantaneously supplying a prescribed amount of charge to the sensing film parts of the ion selecting electrode through a counter electrode, and then measuring the change of the ion selecting electrode in a closed-circuit state. CONSTITUTION:While a cell 12 contains a solution which contain ions to be measured at prescribed concentration, an ion selecting electrode 11 and a counter electrode 13 for deciding deterioration and a reference electrode 14 are set in the cell 12. The start switch 25 for relays 22 and 23 are closed to discharge a prescribed amount of charge DELTAQ, accumulated in a capacitor 15 previously, to between the ion selecting electrode 11 and counter electrode 13. The charge DELTAQ polarizes the ion selecting electrode, whose potential is shifted by eta0. Then, the charge DELTAQ is discharged gradually and the polarized value decreases from eta to zero. The attenuation characteristics of the polarized value are measured to decide the deterioration state of the ion selecting electrode.
