Summary:PURPOSE:To produce the titled diene polymer, by adding an initiator to a conjugated diene compound so as to produce a high-MW polymer having a specified range intrinsic viscosity at the completion of the first-stage polymerization and to produce a low-MW polymer having a specified range intrinsic viscosity at the completion of the second-stage polymerization. CONSTITUTION:In polymerizing a conjugated diene compound or an aromatic olefin compound, an initiator such as an alkali metal or an organo-alkali metal is used so that the polymer at the completion of the first-stage polymerization has an intrinsic viscosity of 2-6. An initiator is used so that the freshly formed polymer in the second stage has an intrinsic viscosity of 0.01-1 and the freshly formed polymer is present in an amount of 5-50wt%. According to this process, it is possible to obtain a diene polymer consisting of 50-95wt% polymer of high degree of polymn. with <=2 Mw/Mn, 2-6 intrinsic viscosity and >=-50 deg.C glass transition point, and 5-50wt% polymer of low degree of a polymn. with 0.01-0.1 intrinsic viscosity.
