Summary:PURPOSE:To detect temperature within an apparatus accurately from outside, by a method wherein an ultrasonic probe is contacted with outer side surface of an insulator to support a high-voltage conductor, and an indicator is connected to the probe and detects propagation time of the ultrasonic wave. CONSTITUTION:An ultrasonic probe 6 generates ultrasonic pulse if voltage from a pulse generator 7 is applied thereto. Pulse from the ultrasonic probe 6 is propagated into a conductor supporting insulator 2 and reflected by an inner conductor 3 and returned to the probe 6. Pulse which does not strike the inner conductor 3 also reaches opposite surface of the insulator and reflected there and returned to the probe 6. The returned ultrasonic wave is converted by the probe 6 into high-frequency and enters an indicator 9 through a receiver 8. Since high frequency voltage from the pulse generator 7 also enters the receiver 8 directly, time interval between the oscillation pulse and the reflecting pulse can be measured at the indicator 9. Temperature can be detected, since the time interval varies with temperature.
