Summary:PURPOSE:To subject oil shale to dry distillation in good efficiency under high pressure and to reduce pulverization of the oil shale by a method wherein each of four shaft furnaces is applied to each of dry distillation, C recovery, cooling, and charging/discharging processes, respectively and the charging/discharging process is carried out in a moving layer and the other processes are carried out in a fixed layer to carry out the dry distillation in a continuous batch system. CONSTITUTION:Shaft furnaces 1a, 1b, 1c, 1d have oil shale charging apparatuses mounted therein and respectively take charge of each of four processes consisting of charging/discharging, dry distillation, C recovery and cooling so as to complete the total process of dry distillation. As soon as the operation carried out by each furnace is completed, each furnace is transferred to the next operation according to the operation order in the dry distillation operation and, as a whole, the dry distillation of oil shale is carried out continuously. By this mechanism, the oil shale is subjected to the dry distillation in a stationary condition and the pulverization thereof is prevented. In the C recovery process, air can be used and this apparatus has an effect of carrying out the dry distillation safely and efficiently.
