Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a closed-cell foam by foaming a plastic based on a polystyrene, a polyvinyl chloride or a phenol/formaldehyde condensate in the presence of a propellant containing a polyfluoroalkane. SOLUTION: There is provided a closed-cell foam obtained by foaming a plastic based on a polystyrene, a polyvinyl chloride or a phenol/formaldehyde in the presence of a propellant containing at least two fluorine atoms and represented by the formula: CX3 -CY2 -R. A urethane foam is obtained by reacting a mixture comprising an aliphatic, cycloaliphatic or aromatic polyisocyanate or the like, a polyether having at least two hydroxyl groups or the like; a chain extender or a crosslinking agent, a propellant and an insulation gas. In the formula, X is H or F; Y is H, F or CF3 ; and R is CH2 F, CHF2 , CH3 , CF3 , CF2 -CH3 , CF2 CH2 F or the like.
