Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for detecting the existing hole of a copying medium and a device for it. SOLUTION: In the case where a transition from paper existence to paper absence occurs, as shown in a block 510, a sensor determines whether or not a transition from the paper absence to paper existence then occurs within a given length of time (y), as shown in a block 512. When the transition from the paper absence to the paper existence does not occur within the given length of time, the TE(trailing edge) of a copying medium has been already detected, as shown in a block 514. A signal transition from the paper absence to the paper existence indicates that a hole exists in a blank space (margin) near the trailing edge of a page, as shown in a block 516.
