Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a laser marking recording material, especially, a laser marking display material suppressing the damage of a support or a packed product at the time of laser marking in a laser marking method for performing high speed marking on-line in a non-contact state. SOLUTION: This recording material is obtained by forming a masking layer containing a laser masking agent between the surface of a base material and a color forming layer and laser marking is applied to this recording material. As the laser masking agent, zinc borate or other metal borates, titanium oxide coated mica or various other metal silicates, metal particles, metal coated particles or the like are pref. used and they pref. have a particle size of 15 μm or less and are used in a state dispersed in the masking layer with a thickness of 0.1-20 μm. The base material is protected from the damage by the transmission of laser beam and the laser masking agent acts as a beam absorbing heat generating agent of laser beam to increase the thermal color forming properties of the color forming layer.
