Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cable degradation detector that can detect the condition of cable degradation in detail. SOLUTION: A device for evaluating time long-term integrity of a cable used for a safety system in a thermal or nuclear power generation plant consists of a hardness meter 2, for measuring the change in the hardness on the surface of a cable 1, a drive motor 4 and a data processor 6. Then, the hardness meter 2 measures the hardness on the surface of the cable 1 through the use of an ultrasonic method. The drive moor 4 enables the hardness meter 2 to move to any desired position in the cable 1. In the data processor 6, measurements of the hardness meter 2 are inputted to detect the condition of the degradation on the surface of the cable.
