Summary:PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain the subject new compound transparent in the visible light range, stable, having such photosensitivity as to be photopolymerized in the far-ultraviolet/ultraviolet light range, and also, because of bearing chlorosilicon group, usable as a chemically absorbing substance suitable for producing monomolecular films for liquid crystal orientation membranes. SOLUTION: This new compound is shown by formula I (R is a 1-3C alkyl or 1-3C alkoxy; (p) is 0-2; A is a bivalent functional group), e.g. 4'-(6- trichlorosiloxyhexyloxy)-chalocone. The compound of formula I is obtained by the following process: 4'-hydroxychalcone of formula II and a compound of the formula Hal-(CH2 )n -OH (Hal is I, Br or Cl; (n) is 3-14) (e.g. 6-chloro-1- hexanol) are subjected to coupling reaction to form a compound of formula III, which, in turn, is subjected, together with silicon tetrachloride, to dehydrochlorination in an inert gas atmosphere.
